Janelle L. Stanley
Diné / Navajo Connection
200 x 33.5’ terrazzo floor
Fabricator: Corradini Corporation
Using her background as a weaver, Janelle L. Stanley combined textile design elements taken from her Diné (Navajo) cultural background for this floor. The design elements are based on traditional weaving and basketry art forms. The blue and black bands of color represent the twisting and spinning of wool into yarn. The internal oval and external diamond shapes are abstracted from Diné basketry patterns. Ms. Stanley created a contemporary floor that shares her heritage with the public.
Public Art project was commissioned by the
Phoenix Office of Arts and Culture
